WALNUT, TROPICAL

Juglands spp.
Juglands spp. of the family Juglandaceae. Includes numerous species in the genus Juglands. "Tropical" walnut (on this site) includes any walnut that is specified as being either "tropical", OR from anywhere in South America, including Peruvian walnut which itself consists of at least 4 species in the genus Juglands.

This sample was loaned to me by David Clark whom I thank for this and other contributions to the site. The 2nd side has been lightly sanded, removing the age patina that you can still see on the first side.

In both cases, the fine, lighter, streaks that run perpendicular to the growth rings are rays (which can be seen MUCH more clearly in the update directly below)

Peruvian walnut planks photographed at a lumber yard --- the pics are a little washed out and the wood is just slightly darker that what shows up here, but no where near as dark as the planks directly above
